Dog Behaviour Consultation: £330
Dog Behaviour Consultation: £330
Is your dog struggling with a specific behavioural problem? This might include:
Anxiety
Noise sensitivities
Struggling with being left alone
Reactivity towards dogs or people
Guarding items
Tensions between household dogs
Repetitive behaviours
Recall issues
And others - please get in touch if you would like to know whether I can help!
Booking a behaviour consultation means we can address the problems you are facing, and work together with a tailored management and behaviour modification plan. Behaviour consultations last approximately two to three hours.
I can only offer behaviour consultations for dogs on veterinary referral. This means your dog’s vet needs to sign my referral form, to say they are happy for me to take on your dog’s case. This is a requirement of the ABTC and CCAB Ltd, and it also helps to rule out any medical conditions that could be influencing your dog’s behaviour, before they are referred to me. This is usually a simple process and I’m happy to answer any questions and support you through it. You can download the form by clicking the button below (any vets who would like to refer a client are welcome to download it here too):
What a consultation includes
In-depth discussion of your dog’s behavioural and medical history
Assessment of the motivation and emotion(s) influencing the behaviour(s)
A written report, including a case summary and a tailored plan for management and behavioural modification strategies
Handouts for exercises introduced
A written summary of my assessment for your vet
Sessions can be delivered online or in-person, depending on availability and what is most appropriate for you and your dog.
How to book
Appointment days and times:
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 6pm (online consultations only)
Saturday mornings at 10am (online or in-person consultations)
Please note If your dog struggles with meeting new people, especially visitors to the home, I will suggest that the initial consultation is conducted online via Zoom. We can then discuss the issue, and I can formulate an assessment and treatment plan, without causing further distress to your dog, with the possibility of any follow-up sessions booked being in-person, if appropriate.
I reserve the right to cancel and refund any booking if the behaviour issue is outside of my remit, or to request that we transfer an in-person booking to online, should this best in the best interests of your dog.
Follow-up sessions can be booked for £60 per hour.
Insurance and fees
As I am on the ABTC CAB practitioner register, you may be able to reclaim the cost of your dog’s behaviour consultation, less your excess, through your insurance company. It’s worth checking with your insurance provider before booking to see if this is the case. I am unfortunately unable to process direct claims.
Dog Behaviour Package: £400
The Dog Behaviour Package is my preferred service, and available for those who would like more one-to-one support with their dog, beyond a single consultation. This means we can track your dog’s progress for three months together following our initial meeting, and make any relevant tweaks or adjustments to their behaviour modification plan.
What this package includes
The initial two-hour consultation, including:
In-depth discussion of your dog’s behavioural and medical history
Assessment of the motivation and emotion(s) influencing the behaviour(s)
A written report, including a case summary and a tailored plan for management and behavioural modification strategies
Handouts for exercises introduced
PLUS an additional two hours of contact time with me, bookable as 2 x 60-minute online sessions. These are to be booked within three months of the initial consultation.
If the initial consultation is conducted online over Zoom, one of these follow-up sessions could be held in-person, if appropriate.
What You Can Expect
My job as your dog’s behaviourist is to help you identify why your dog is currently feeling and behaving the way they are, and then to empower you with kind, safe and evidence-based training exercises to help you change these where necessary. The aim is to ensure a more harmonious relationship between you and your dog, and to make life easier, more manageable and more enjoyable for you both.
Experience (and science!) has shown me that behaviour modification is rarely a speedy process. Often, problem behaviours have been practised for months or years, and it can take a while for new behavioural patterns and practises to sink in. Consistency is key! I will be there to support you in those early stages, but it’s important that you and those who live with and care for your dog continue to implement the treatment plan we devise, for long-term results.
Success will depend on various factors, including your dog’s health, environment, the time you can commit to the treatment plan, how easy it is for you to reduce exposure to stressors or triggers in the short-term, and more. There is often a level of compromise required between what you most want and what your dog needs, at least in the short-term. My main priority is to help you have a better understanding of your dog’s behaviour and emotional state, so that you are better equipped with how to manage any issues and make more positive changes in the long-term.
